.A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I hope everyone has enjoyed our lovely fall colours. It is always a treat to see the panorama of our forest reflected in the still waters of Fox Lake.
We were blessed with great weather for our summer activities this year. Thanks to Dave Blanchard and Sharon Lillico for hosting our Annual General Meeting on July 8. We had a good turnout and those who attended enjoyed socializing over refreshments following the meeting. The meeting minutes are posted on the FLA website. David and Sharon have offered to host the AGM again next year on Saturday, July 13.
I extend a big thank you to Sue Finbow and her family for coordinating the Annual Fox Lake Regatta on August 5. Thanks also to Emily Yule, Jim and Leanne Crawford and Anna and John Morrison for making their beaches available for activities and boat parking. It was wonderful to see so many people in their Christmas finery in August! Thanks to Dave and Sharon for hosting the horseshoe tournament, to Anna Morrison and Catherine Robinson for recording winners and handing out ribbons and to all those who helped with judging. The list of event winners is posted on the FLA website. Next year’s regatta will be held on Saturday, August 3rd and we will provide details in our Spring Newsletter.
We are very appreciative of the generosity of Camp Romuva in allowing us to hold our annual corn roast/fall fair on their grounds on Saturday September 2. Thanks to Cam MacIver for coordinating the event and to Jim Watson for acting as auctioneer. A special thanks to all who donated and purchased auction items. $555 was raised to support future FLA activities. The corn hole game, egg toss, sack race and three-legged race were enjoyed by many and will be back again next year. Check out some photos here.
We welcomed two new members to our Board of Directors this summer. Cam McIvor and Tayfun Uzun, both of West Fox Lake, were elected at the AGM. Christa Casselman-Sharp resigned from the board but has maintained a position on our Executive as environment officer. I extend our appreciation to Christa for her contribution as a board member and look forward to her continuing contribution as executive officer.
The Board and Executive continue to monitor issues impacting the lake community. We have had an update from the Bell consultant informing us that a date for the construction of the Telecommunications tower at Hoodstown Shores has still not been set. Please contact me, or any member of the FLA Board and Executive, if you have concerns or suggestions about lake issues or would like to volunteer for FLA activities.
Wishing everyone a safe, healthy and happy winter!
Sincerely,
Alix Yule
FLA President
