A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Happy Autumn to everyone!
I hope this newsletter finds you and yours in good health and enjoying your time at Fox Lake. Although the FLA’s summer activities were curtailed again this year due to the ongoing pandemic, I thank everyone who attended the Annual General Meeting, participated in the Annual Regatta and paid their membership dues.
The AGM, held on July 10 was our first “hybrid” meeting, with 11 people attending in person and 14 attending on-line. We anticipate that next year we will be able to welcome everyone in-person on July 9 at the Anderson’s on East Fox Lake Road.
I extend a big thank you to Cindy Taylor, our Regatta Coordinator again this year. The modified format had participants creating sandcastles, undertaking a scavenger hunt and showing evidence of the Fox Lake Monster on their own beaches and docks.
A new event, the “Long Paddle Race '' was introduced this year, with canoers, kayakers and paddleboarders racing almost the length of the lake. Thanks to Robin Yule/Pat Currie and Dave Blanchard/Sharon Lillico for the use of their pontoon boats by the regatta judges and thanks to all of the participants and ‘winners’ – see some of their photos in this newsletter.
Fortunately, we were able to hold the regatta Horseshoe Tournament in person this year. Thanks so much to Sandy McLennan for hosting and congratulations to the winners: Rick Skinner and Robert Finbow; Rob Dorsman and friend Matt; Nathan Stainton and friend Samraj.
We look forward to the return of our traditional regatta next year on July 30.
The FLA relies on volunteers to organize social activities for our lake community and we are always looking for more people. If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with any member of the FLA Executive. We also want to organize events and address issues that are important to our members. To find out what activities and issues you would like the FLA to focus on, we will be sending out a survey in the coming weeks. Please keep a look out for the survey and complete and return it to us so that we can better respond to your priorities.
The Town of Huntsville has drafted a new Community Planning Permit By-law to regulate and manage development and is seeking public input. The new by-law is intended to be more streamlined and flexible that the Zoning By-law. If you would like to review the draft or provide your comments, please visit myhuntsville.ca/cppbylaw.
Wishing everyone a safe, healthy and happy winter!
Sincerely,
Alix Yule
FLA President
